The perils of gate guarding/Easter storm damage.

One of the perils of doing this kind of work is the rapidly changing weather conditions. Andy Jones from My Old RV suffered significant damage late Easter due to a storm over in the Millet/Los Angeles area. He has posted pictures on his blog as well as a description of events during the storm.

Andy has been a guiding light to many a gate guard and unfortunately is unable to financially absorb all the costs of the damage incurred to his RV.  I want to ask all of my readers in the gate guard community to please head over to Andy's blog and make use of the donate button there.

  1. Hey Bryan,I have enjoyed following your blog and Andy Jones blog as well, but something is just not right about Andy and his situation as has been noted by a few other folks as well and I recently asked Andy about it and tho I sent him several emails and comments he has never responded to any of them and in fact deleted 2 of my comments which were well above board and in no way abusive towards him.In fact I offered Andy significant financial help if he could just respond to my private emails or answer a few simple questions.
My point here is,we have all needed help at one time or another I'm sure, but when you read back thru Andy's blogs,it would seem his wife left him previous to the storm and cleaned out the bank accounts which I would presume put him in a bad way to gate guard 24/7 alone.Next he tells us how he found his wife at a nudist resort and gave her a ride to her car.
Then all of a sudden the storm hits and wipes him out as shown in the photos.
But next we read where his wife seems to have come back,as was noted by a forum post by her and blog posts by Andy.
So my logical questions to Andy are:
    1. Where is the money she ran off with?,and why would you want her back after what she seemingly took from you,so she can do it again later?.
    2. You have all this equipt and real estate and personal items, not to mention the insurance from the Suburban and the value of "the old girl" that should easily buy a used RV,yet your asking people for money and many state right there in the comments section they are living on little themselves but still give,God love em.
3.And then those that offer to help and ask only for some communication from you Andy, you refuse to do so.
So you see Bryan, something just isn't right at all about this "donate to Andy" situation.
I hope it is above board and that Andy will take the time to respond personally to those folks that have offered help.
If not, then this is one person that just can't justify any finacial aide without answers.
It's sad Bryan but when one takes the time to read some of the hundreds of blogs,it is getting very surprising at the percentage of those folks that are actively seeking donations so they can keep up their lifestyle.I'm not talking the point and click Amazon and such money making things but flat out donations.
Thanks and have a great day.

    1. I have been wrestling with the decision whether or not to delete this comment. No one is forcing anyone else to donate to Andy in an effort to ease his financial burden at the moment.

Asking pointedly personal questions as to Andy's private life as a prerequisite for any funds promised/offered is way out of line and really kind of creepy IMO. Many of us were offering to help long before the blog post and did so WITHOUT strings attached. It took more than a few of us to convince him to even consider putting that button on the blog so that we could help him.

1.) What is between Andy and Kathy is exactly that, and none of anyone else's business.

2.) We reacted to his need, without any qualifiers.

3.) Everything we needed to know was in the forums and the blog post. Andy is highly regarded by many of us in the gate guard community and he has never hesitated to help any one of us. Many of us presently gateguarding would not be doing so if it weren't for Andy's input and guidance on the blog and in the forums.

Make no mistake, that button is on his blog reluctantly, it took many of us pushing the issue so that we could ease his burden. We are a family, a gate guard family and we help and support each other in times of need.

  3. Yes, there is something wrong with all of this. First of all if what is between Kathy and Andy is just between them, then why does he splash it all over the internet for any and everyone to read? Today in his blog post he quoted a whole bunch of unpublished comments and emails he supposedly got. None of us would have ever known about those if he had not told us. Then Kathy responds angrily in the comment section to the invisible internet beings. Well, it was her husband that exposed those and embarrassed her! The blog has gone strait down the toilet and has nothing to do with fulltiming or gateguarding. It now sounds like a silly old man and his silly wife bitching and moaning and sniping. There is a place for all that and it is called Facebook! Something in this whole mess reeks and I won't be sending them a thin dime! Nor will I be "keeping up with the Jones" any longer!

    1. Sorry to hear you feel that way. Every one of us is entitled to his or her own opinion and the right to disagree with others. If you are uncomfortable contributing to the fund then please feel free to not do so.

That being said, most of us are prone to succumb once in awhile to our own humanity.

  4. I do get around Andy, and I do it with my own money that I earned and am smart enough to always maintain full coverage insurance on "my Home" so that I don't have to beg folks I don't know on the internet to bail me out when I have made the mistakes/choices he obviously has.
He didn't want help when he finally wrote me,he wanted money, plain and simple,I have been around way to long to be scammed by him.

Your family?,that's great, let the family support him now and the next time "she" runs off with his money, and the next time and the time after that, because her track record clearly shows she will.

Why should the world pay for Andy's choices/mistakes?.

I read alot of blogs and have been reading more and more that have that "donate" button right there at the top.
Why not earn it like everyone else thru Amazon or other business links or selling something? or workamping or a real job?.

His site clearly shows photos of him with his toys, maybe he should sell them all before he begs people for money and then ask his wife to give back what she took when she went to the,,,,,oh yeah,,,,nudist resort.

    Yep,I get around,with my own money,,,,,,Just saying.

You asked for this Bryan when you decided to sign on with him.

    1. This is the last time I will address this with you, period. Like I said before, if you don't want to participate then don't. As of this writing the donate button has been removed for a few weeks from the blog.Bitching and moaning about things that you have limited knowledge on doesn't get anyone anywhere.

You say that you read the blogs but this last message is an example to the contrary. You obviously know little to nothing about oilfield gate guarding despite your claims.

I am finished with this exchange, any further comments will be treated as spam.
